Street Fair in the City - Fillmore Street Jazz Festival

Fillmore Street Jazz Festival - Poster
Summer in the city is going great so far. Lots of street fairs and free music events happening almost every weekend and I am glad that we've stayed in the town most of June and July.

On 4th of July weekend, we found ourselves on the other side of the city enjoying free music and great crowd at the Fillmore Street Jazz Festival. Fun times!

It proved to be a great decision to stay in town for the 4th of July weekend. We got to the venue around noontime which was great because the fog had not rolled in yet. The weather was on the cool side but there was sunshine. The fair organizers closed sections of Fillmore Street to the motorists and put several stages every two blocks. The crowd was already getting thicker and I could hear music playing any which way I turn.

Mijo and I have been going to this street fair for many years and I am still amazed at how much music this festival has. Of course, there were also booths selling local arts, crafts, organizations, corporate booths and food stalls.

The first stage we saw was on Fillmore and California and the band was playing a dizzying Tango music.  There were several couples displaying their sensual tango moves in front of the stage. The scene was so beautiful to watch. Remember, this was not at a tango club at night. This was at a street fair during the day.

We took a quick coffee break at the nearby La Boulangerie cafe on Pine street and came back to the same stage on Fillmore and California for more music. The next performers played Big Band style of music.

The crowd looked ready for the next act.

We walked towards Geary Blvd and lingered a bit to listen to 60's music on Fillmore and Sutter. I guess the 60's music was in line with the 50th anniversary of the Summer of Love in the City. Just like in the previous stage, there was no name of the band anywhere on stage so I missed the names.

On Post and Fillmore, there was an urban music going on. I'm not sure if this was an official performer or it was just an impromptu show. Either way, they were good so we linger here for a bit as well.

We finally made it to the other side of Fillmore crossing Geary Blvd. A group playing Cabaret jazz was on stage on Fillmore and Eddy when we got there.

It is always fun to go to the Fillmore Street Jazz Festival. It is one of my favorite street fairs in the city. Thank you organizers!
