Art at the Airport - American Folk Art at SFO Museum

I was at SFO recently to drop-off  Mijo for his trip abroad. While waiting for him to finish check-in, I had time to walk around the International terminal and had an enjoyable time looking at the airport's art displays about American Folk Art near Gate A. 

Art in the City - Klimt exhibit at the Legion of Honor

The Legion of Honor is currently running the Klimt & Rodin exhibition and I was lucky enough to get tickets to this enormously popular event.

Klimt and Rodin are two of the more popular artists whose works of arts I enjoy and I feel thankful to have seen this exhibition while it is in San Francisco.

Lotus Live in the City - Largest Human Flower by the Asian Art Museum

The Asian Art Museum organized Lotus Live as part of its celebration of Flower Power and at the same time broke the Guinness World Records™ title for Largest Human flower.

I am so happy and honored to have been part of this title that now belongs to the Asian Art Museum. 

Art in the City - Andy Warhol at SFMoMA

I recently visited the SFMoMA. I had been to the museum more than once this year so instead of seeing its entire collection all over again, I've decided to focus on one artist each time I visit.

My first artist on focus is one of my favorites Andy Warhol.

Seeing his works once again but spending more time on each work was refreshing.

Art in the City - SFMoMA Member Preview Day

We were fortunate to get tickets to the SFMoMA's Member Preview Day. I love the additional collections, the new Snøhetta building, and of course, the existing collections.

It was a lot to take in. I'll definitely have to come back on a weekday after its official opening on May 14.

Fashion Exhibit at the De Young Museum - Oscar De La Renta: The Retrospective

Oscar De La Renta: The Retrospective is currently on display at the De Young Museum. My friends Caloy, Rey and I braved the rainy day and the big crowd to see it.

There was a long line going into the museum. We almost didn't get in but the story ended well and we were able see the exhibit. Oscar De La Renta is truly one of the best designers in the world.

Art Exhibit in the City - Bill Graham and the Rock and Roll Revolution at the Contemporary Jewish Museum

Mijo took me one Saturday afternoon to the Contemporary Jewish Museum to see an exhibit called Bill Graham and the Rock and Roll Revolution. Not only was Bill Graham a successful rock promoter but he also used rock as a medium to raise awareness and raised funds to help others.

It was also great to be able to put a face on a name of a Civic Auditorium in San Francisco.

Bakery in the City - Boudin Museum and Bakery Tour

In the many years that I've lived in the city and eating sourdough breads, I never set foot in Boudin's museum. Before this month, I didn't know their museum existed. 

What I discovered was an eye opener. Not only I learned about the beginnings of Boudin, I also learned about their sourdough. A bakery tour was a bonus!

Filipino Arts in the City - Filipino American Month at the Asian Art Museum

Asian Art Museum showcased Filipino arts and culture on the first Sunday of October through their event called Ugnayan Lahi. 

As a transplanted Filipino, it was great to see the spotlight on my culture at the Asian Art Museum in my favorite city San Francisco.

Neighborhood Days in the City - Free admission at the California Academy of Science

Every spring and fall, San Francisco residents enjoy free admission on designated weekends according to zip codes.  Our turn happened a few weeks ago. 

Mijo and I absolutely love the Academy so we try to go to these free events as much as we could.  Thank you, California Academy of Sciences for the free admission!

Art Exhibit in the City - Gorgeous at Asian Art Museum

The Asian Art Museum is open until 9pm on Thursdays. Mijo and I dropped by the museum after work on a Thursday to see their current exhibition called Gorgeous.

Gorgeous runs through September 14, 2014.

Museum in the City - The Walt Disney Family Museum

This is a late post but I felt like my creativity got energized when I visited the Disney Family Museum. This is like visiting a very modest but very smart and innovative neighbor or friend.

I definitely recommend this museum to learn more about one of the most innovative and creative Americans who touched lots of lives through his Disney brand.

Sculptures in the City - Mark Di Suvero in Crissy Field

Eight compelling steel sculptures by artist Mark Di Suvero are currently on display in Crissy Field as part of an art exhibition by the SFMoMA.

The exhibition is outdoors and for free in Crissy Field. If you are in town, these sculptures will be on display until May 26, 2014.

Science Museum in the City - Listening Vessels at the Exploratorium (and Pause on Market Street)

The Exploratorium re-opened on Embarcadero St last year but I only went for the first time on Monday which was the President's Day holiday.  Huge mistake! The place was a zoo.

I was able to see a couple of exhibits before I waved the white flag and surrendered to the kids and their parents inundating the place that day. As a consolation, I saw the Listening Vessel which is very similar to a public exhibit on Market St. called Pause.

Bell Ringing in the City - New Year Bell Ringing Ceremony at the Asian Art Museum

Mijo and I joined museum members at the Asian Art Museum on New Year's Eve in ringing the year away. It was something that is uplifting at the same time nostalgic. 

It is a Japanese tradition so this Filipino guy found the experience quite a novelty. While I feel nostalgic that the holidays are over, I am hopeful for 2014. Happy New Year everyone.

Art exhibition in the City - The Girl With A Pearl Earring, Dutch Paintings from the Mauritshuis

One of the most popular paintings in the world was in the city recently. The De Young Museum just hosted a traveling art exhibition entitled Dutch Paintings from the Mauritshuis and at its center is The Girl With a Pearl Earring.

The exhibition just ended last week but I feel truly blessed to have seen this beauty in my lifetime. Imagine, it even traveled from Belgium to San Francisco? I love this city!

Art Exhibit in the City - China's Terracotta Warriors at the Asian Art Museum

Finally! What Mijo and I have been waiting for. Drum roll please... China's Terracotta Warriors are in town and on display at the Asian Art Museum.

The Asian Art Museum officially opened its new art exhibit called China's Terracotta Warriors, The First Emperor's Legacy. Mijo and I attended the Opening Night Party on Thursday evening so we can take a peek at these life sized ancient terracotta soldiers before the museum officially opened the exhibit to the public on February 22nd.

Museum in the City- The San Francisco Railway Museum and Giftshop

I ran a couple of errands on Saturday and Mijo and I were going to meet for lunch right after I finish. I was around the Ferry Building plaza when Mijo called to let me know he was running late. Since I was in the area and I needed to kill time, I decided to step inside the San Francisco Railway Museum.

The admission to this museum is free of charge and it doubles as a gift shop. My visiting the place was also timely because MUNI just celebrated its 100th year.

Science Museum in the City - San Francisco neighborhood free days at the California Academy of Sciences

I truly love this city at the same time I feel fortunate to live here. I just got over a busy week of carrying our escalation pager at work so it felt like I deserved to relax and enjoy the week after.

Since I was on my own to venture out (Mijo has the pager this week), I decided to take advantage of the great fall weather in the city.It was also the time of the year when the California Academy of Sciences lets locals go in for free.  Let me take you on a photo tour of the Academy.

Museum in Santa Rosa - Charles M. Schulz Museum and Research Center

I didn't grow up in the States but this didn't deter me from getting acquainted with the works of Charles M. Schulz. In fact, I am more familiar with Peanuts, Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Peppermint Patty, Linus and Woodstock than their creator Charles M. Schulz. I remember reading articles in the San Francisco Chronicle about his passing away and saw specials on tv right after his death. Unfortunately, that was when I learned more about this great artist. 

While we were in Sonoma County, Mijo and I made time to dropby the Charles M. Schulz Museum and Research Center.  Let me take you on a photo tour of the museum.
