Mijo and I recently found an innovative and good ice cream place with an urban vibe. We started going to Smitten Ice Cream on Valencia St.
Summer may be over but this place is definitely one of our go to ice cream places near the neighborhood.
Valencia Street in the Mission District is continually evolving. Every time we walk around the neighborhood, old stores close and new ones open. We recently found Smitten and we had gone there a few times this summer.
The ice cream is hand made to order. This is why the flavors available each day, or maybe week are select and not plenty. The ice cream is hand made by the use of liquid nitrogen to freeze the cream in no time.
The store is urban chic, open space and wood floors and walls. The first thing you'll notice is the aroma of freshly baked sugar cones dominates the entire store as you step in.
They have six ice cream making stations so you can see how the ice creams are made. Vapors come out of the stations reminiscent of chemistry laboratory days in high school. I find it fun to watch how the ice cream is made and they make it fast!
They have lots of seating areas inside and with the view of the ice cream making stations.
During the day, lots of natural light. Spacious area to hangout in.
Mijo sampled this mascarpone a with strawberry sauce as topping. Creamy and fruity combination.
I tried their salted caramel with toasted almonds as toppings on a sugar bowl. Delicious!
Next time, Mijo tried their plain vanilla with strawberry toppings. This is classic pairing.
They also have a nice parklet outside on the street for an al fresco experience.
Next, Mijo sample their Vietnamese coffee flavor. It was definitely a winner.
I sampled their Earl Grey. It was the first time I ever had an Earl Grey ice cream and I like it. It grows on you.
We went their one time in the evening. The crowd is as lively as during the day.
Even though summer is over, I think Mijo and I will continue to visit this place whenever we are in the neighborhood.
