There are so many wonderful restaurants around Sonoma but we keep coming here. This place must have become of our favorites in the area.
From Merriam Vineyards, it took us an hour to get from Northern Sonoma to Sonoma Plaza.
When we got to the restaurant, we were seated right away. The restaurant has a great outdoor dining are but we decided to seat inside. Even though the weather was great and the sunshine was glorious, the weather was still cool.
The bread and butter, as always, were great. Mijo and I decided to get their Bistro Plats du Jour which is a three course lunch and their menu changes every Thursday. So we knew we were going to try something new. The Bistro Plats du Jour came with a wine pairing per course with an additional fee. I am always intrigued with the pairings and try to imagine the process used my the sommelier to come up with each pairing.
The first course was this refreshing sweet gem salad with radicchio, shaved brioche toasts and lemon parmesan vinaigrette paired with 2014 Viognier from Cambria. Amazing first course and pairing.
The second course was this very tasty braised pork ragoût with local polenta, baby carrots and pearl onions. It was paired with a 2012 Table 6 Red Blend Tavosa.
And finally, their unforgettable dessert was a brownie sundae with salted fig caramel, brandied cherry and cocoa nibs, chantilly. The other plate was cheese plate of brie l'original and campo de montalban with persimmon chutney, spiced nuts and fig cake. The pairing was a Ramos Pinto Porto Ruby. Wonderful pairings.
The first time we came to the restaurant we sat inside. The second time, we sat outside. I do remember the painting style of the artist Julie Higgins but I don't remember if the artworks on the walls inside the restaurant were there the first time I came here. They never fail to amaze me. Lovely artworks!
Mijo and I always enjoy and have a great time here. Until the next time!
