Wine Tasting in Santa Cruz - Copious Winery

Copious WineryAside from my favorite wine destinations north of San Francisco such as Napa Valley, Sonoma, Russian River valley and the Mendocino coast, I am starting to appreciate the wineries south of the city like Santa Cruz and Monterey Bay. Last week, we went south of SF to catch some sun and surf. As a side trip, we discovered this urban winery called Copious Winery. Their delicious wines were such wonderful addition to our refreshing day trip to Santa Cruz.

Copious Winery - wine tastingAfter spending the majority of the day relaxing on the beach by the Santa Cruz boardwalk and another couple of hours walking around the area and sharing a nice early afternoon meal, we decided to freshen up and maybe get a couple of bottles of wine from Bonny Doon and a bag of coffee from Santa Cruz Roasting Company before heading back to the city. As we passed on Swift St. on our way to our favorite Bonny Doon Vineyard's tasting room on Ingalls St., we saw this sign with lots of colorful balloons that said Sparkling wine sale. We got curious and took a detour. To make the story short, we got to Copious Winery by mistake because we thought they were the ones having the sale. Our decision to stay proved to be a great choice.

Copious Winery - wine barrelsCopious Winery's tasting room is in a huge warehouse. The place gives you that urban feeling at the same time the tasting room is spacious, airy and lots of natural lighting. I noticed the large wine barrels and artsy pieces - from their wall art to their huge metalic chandelier. They were done and arranged in good taste. Brandie, one of the owners, greeted us with a warm smile.

Copious Winery - tasting roomThey charge $5 for wine tasting which includes 3 white wines and 3 red wines but they'll waive the tasting fee with a wine purchase. I learned from our hostess that she and her husband own the winery and they've been making tasty wines for over ten years. While talking to her, my mind drifted far away and imagined myself and Mijo doing the same thing - wine making. I told her I envy them for what they do and what they create.

I ended up choosing a bottle of their 2009 Sauvignon Blanc and a bottle of Pinot Noir. Copious Winery is such a great addition to my list of favorite wineries in Santa Cruz. They are located on Swift and Delaware Sts. in Santa Cruz, California.
