Guess where we went after Merryvale? We went to Honig. I am glad we sampled their wines because they are good. Mijo and I will definitely go back and taste some more the next time we are in Napa Valley.
Their setting is what I call idyllic and perfect modern country setting. Kind of like a rustic barn with a modern twist. For someone who has been wine tasting earlier that day and who just had a big lunch, this scenery is a perfect place to nap. Napping in Napa Valley.
Vineyards surround their estate and outdoor tables and chairs dot the entrance.
First, we tasted their 2012 Sauvignon Blanc Rutherford. Though I was not keen on tasting whites, they have this in their tasting menu. It was very refreshing especially during the warm Napa Valley summer weather. I tasted some mango and vanilla. Next was their 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Pink. I tasted some melon. 10% of the sale of their Pink is donated to aid in the fight of breast cancer.
Next was their 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley Library Release. This one is very good. It has hints of cherry and plum and chocolate.
This was also the part where Bob, Mijo and I were practicing our newly acquired skill of aerating wines. Instead of swirling, you roll the wine glass on its side against the table. Be careful not to spill the wine.
Lastly and the winner in my notes was the 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Campbell vineyard. It has lots of cherry and plum flavors with mild tannins.
Honig Vineyard and Winery is on Rutherford Rd. in Napa Valley.
