Wine Tasting in Napa Valley - Ehlers Estate

Ehlers Estate - EstateWe needed a late lunch break after three consecutive wineries. So after the delicious and lively meal break at the Calistoga Kitchen we hit the road again in search of our fourth and last winery of the day.

This time we went to Ehlers Estate and we were joined by wine enthusiasts Francis and Scott. This certified organic winery has very well rounded Cabernet Sauvignons.

Ehlers Estate - VineyardTheir winery is beautiful. This is how I want my winery if I had lots of money and lots of time. Their tasting room is modern, airy, well lit and hip on the inside and clean and rustic on the outside. Welcoming is the right word and that was my first impression of the winery. Ehlers Estate - Wine GlassesThe vineyard outside is heavy with fruits. Their tasting room contains several tables which is perfect for big groups who want to taste wines and compare notes. Their tasting is $25 per person. Their tasting menu is short but we were able to sample a couple more wines thanks to our server. The ones that we tasted were very good especially the Cabernet Sauvignons - 2009 One Twenty Over Eighty, 2009 Merlot, 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon 1886, 2009 Cabernet Franc and 2009 Petit Verdot. I usually sample Petit Verdot as part of a red wine blend but this tasting made me curious about Petit Verdots as a single varietal wine. I once again made a mental note that I should get a bottle from this tasting list next time or over the internet.

Ehlers Estate - Tasting RoomI also took note that Ehlers Estate is another good Napa Valley winery to bring out of towner friends because of the relaxed atmosphere, the long history of the winery, the surrounding vineyards, the knowledgeable servers and tasty wines.

Ehlers Estate is on Ehlers Lane off Highway 29 in St. Helena, Ca.
